An Overview of Equine Assisted Learning
~ The Power is in the Practice ~
There is a big difference between “knowing” or “remembering” something from a book and experiencing it. Ears Forward Coaching offers unique programs that develop emotional agility, build resilience and increase self-esteem by allowing participants to see the reality of their choices as they are reflected back by a herd of horses. Herd dynamics are powerful metaphors for leadership, teamwork, non-verbal communication, setting boundaries, and for illustrating group and family dynamics. Horses show us a different way of relating with ourselves, others, and our environment, while teaching us awareness, trust, integrity and respect. The whole experience creates real and lasting change. Horses are masterful at teaching life lessons and can assist with periods of transition. This experiential learning is often called Equine Guided Development (EGD), Equine Facilitated Wellness (EFW) or Equine Assisted Learning (EAL).
Horse Connection Sessions
EAL is a personal skill-building program where the horses are the teachers.
No horse experience is necessary – Participants work on the ground with horses.
Both individual (one-on-one) sessions & groups (2-4 participants) are available.
Call Sharolyn 604-623-4888 to set up a tour, meet the herd and see if a Horse Connection Session is a fit for your clients.
Active EAL sessions have shown to have many positive benefits beyond riding and horsemanship. The powerful bond and connection participants develop with the horse can foster the following outcomes:
- Increased understanding of their own emotions and body language
- Improved communication skills including ability to set bold boundaries
- Making better choices while gaining clarity in decision making abilities.
- Increased empathy and social skills and relating that to other relationships
- Increased impulse control and leadership skills
- Increased understanding and ability to trust others and themselves
- Increased confidence and courage and decreased feelings of isolation
- Improved social skills and resilience – a healthier way of operating and cooperating with others
